Punters 1 Premier league 0
Pub landlady wins David and Goliath battle to screen football games beamed in from Greece | Mail Online
Well, its the Fans 1 Premier league 0, on televising Premier League football in pubs, it was deemed illegal for pubs to show matches live using foreign TV satellite boxes, Sky charge pubs around £1000 a month whereas foreign companies charge considerably less. A Portsmouth landlady challenged a verdict to fine her £8000 for using outside servers which has been overturned by the European Court of Justice, Maybe if Sky charged a reasonable amount in the first place this wouldn't happen
I've put this in the general chap section as opposed to sport but if the mods chose to move it fair enough

Re: Punters 1 Premier league 0
Maybe if the Greeks charged us all £1,000 a month, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in!
Seriously, it is a very important ruling. I hate the "nanny" attitude that stops 3.00pm matches on a Saturday being broadcast live on Sky, leading pub landlords to use foreign channels for those games as well as all the other live games. It is archaic and hopefully this ruling will lead to its eradication.

Re: Punters 1 Premier league 0
If the outside servers are in the EU then why shouldn't they be allowed to be used over here, after all we are also in the EU. I personally don't have Sky as it costs a fortune (apart from the free channels) I will stick with Freeview. Definitely about time Sky was brought down a peg or two.

Not just Sky but football in general. Lets get it back to a working mans game instead of some poncy corporate event for the rich folk.

Re: Punters 1 Premier league 0
i dislike sky more than i dislike the bbc
with sky not only do you pay a fee for it but you have to endure adverts as well but to top it off they show even more repeats than the bbc.
Its a pitty the EU wont rule that the BBC license fee is unfair as i dont think you should have to pay for something you dont use just because you have an ariel that you need to receive other stations.

Sorry matey but whilst I strongly agree with your dislike of Sky's ever-increasing stranglehold on British television, I must put the boot in to the idea of scrapping the licence fee.
You think Sky is bad for adverts, full of repeats and cheap television? Try commercialising the BBC, we'll be swamped with American dross and low-rate reality programmes till we hit the off switch.
You may not think it but we really need the BBC, it sets the standard that everyone else tries to live up to.

Re: Punters 1 Premier league 0
Sky make a fortune out of covering premiership matches, both domestically through the subsriptions, and globally by selling the matches worldwide. It strikes me that the product they are presenting has as a major component something they get other mugs to pay for ie the atmosphere generated by the crowd. With the money that they make they should be footing the bill for people to be in the ground generating the noise and atmosphere.
Imagine a Manchester United v Chelsea game in an empty stadium!

fair enough but shouldn't we at least have a choice if we want to have their service. If caught by their vans watching bbc without a license then prosecute because when those vans come round they can tell what you are watching not just that you have a tv.
ps:
The bbc broadcasts world wide yet we are the only country in the world forced to pay for their service regardless as to if we want it or not.BBC America uses adverts infact i think they have to pay for the extra channel also like we do with sky .At least other countries get an option where as we have to pay for it even if we never watch a single bbc channel

I've been watching this case with some interest and it's about time Sky were brought down a peg or two.
Why should one organisation own the tv rights to football matches in the UK?
Is it not time for the government to investigate how tv rights are sold?
Why should Sky dictate what time matches kick off?
I totally agree with Sir Alex Ferguson that you can play in Europe on Wednesday night then have to fly back to play a match Saturday lunch time. Not giving any consideration to the way the fixtures impact on other teams and players.
I don't have Sky and have no intentions of getting it as I refuse line murdoch's pockets.

Actually the court case wasn't with Sky it was with the Premier League as far as this case was concerned,
