Aye, both parts. I also found it good that the German U-Boat crew & al German positions were actual portrayed by German actors so the dialogue wasn't the normal "for you tommy zer war ist over !"
Just as a little aside here's some information concerning the U-156
Hi Dave, I did the google thing straight away and there is loads of info. All very interesting. There is also a program on tonight talking to the survivors of the Laconia.
While playing Soldiers I had the opportunity to go sailing which I happily undertook. The British Army Sailing was mainly done from a German Naval Base (Operational) at Kiel allowing access to the Baltic & the Danish Islands. On the outbound leg you went past the old U-Boat pens, Krupp Engineering plant & the War Memorial for the German Submariners.
The German Baltic Fleet above & below water still exercise in the area & it was quite unnerving to be followed in by a surfaced U-Boat or have them dodging between the Yacht fleet.
My dad was watching it last night (when I rang him to bitch about the Aussies not giving our lads champagne with the Ashes!), he rated it very highly, and he isn't easy to please, I'll look out for a repeat!

be interesting to see if the BBC's next 'production' is an honest investigation into the sinking of the SS Cap Arcona , an incident where the RAF was responsible for the death of over 5,000 concentration camp survivors on the day before the German surrender.
