Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
Seems the powers that be at the BeeB are going to make sure this farce can't happen again. Next year they're going to introduce a new rule, anybody at the bottom of the leader board three weeks running will be disqualified, yippee

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
Oh, now I'm torn - I wanted him out but I don't think it's right that he should do this.
In all fairness, much as I didn't want him in I did accept that the rest of the voting public seemed to want to see him and so we all have to accept that decision.
I wonder what they'll do this week then as no one will be needed to do a dance off?

Exactly.
I don't think he should have quit.
He played the game by the rules, even if the judges didn't like it.
Hopefully the public would eventually have come to their senses as to the quality of his dancing, and if they didn't...so be it.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
In a statement he said "I think I could just go on and win it, but that would have been beyond the joke" Think he's doing a final dance on Saturdays Show, wonder if anyone will be voted out his week?

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
As the money raised is going to children in need, they must have been raising a lot of money from the phone call for keeping John Sergeant in.
I expect that the people keeping John in will not be voting for anybody else. Therefore money lost for children in need. Surely it’s all about fun. He was being kept in because the voters wanted to be entertained.
There are rules. They should keep to them.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
It said on the B.B.C. news you can claim your money back if you voted for John to stay.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
It has emerged that John Sergeant stepped down because he is due to go on a cruise. He never expected to stay in so long, puts a new slant on his pulling out and shows it was hardly a noble gesture on his part

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
As some one who watched the program for the dancing I'm glad John has stood down. I was brought up watching Come Dancing back in the 50s and 60s when it was Victor Silvester and his slow, slow quick quick slow. I have one regret, which is, I never learnt to ballroom dance, once went to the Court School of Dancing, over Burton's, in Lord St. Blackburn, one Sunday night when I was in my teens, but it was a mitigated disaster and never went back. I actually went with another Accy Web member but I won't embrace him by telling you who he is, but if he reads this he'll remember

'The political correspondent has a contract to give after-dinner speeches and show off his dance skills on a cruise that includes a trip through the Panama Canal.
The trip begins six days after his last appearance on the BBC1 talent show, on Saturday night, and has prompted speculation he quit because he had expected to be voted out by viewers before the holiday started.'
John Sargeant heads off on cruise after Strictly Come Dancing drama - Telegraph
It does rather put a different slant on his 'noble' decission to quit.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2008
One thing has struck me about this - why did he enter if he didn't believe he was going to win and now, when there is the possibility that he might win has he stood down?
Actually that's two things but it's the same stream of conciousness.
He's a clever man, he's been around the block a few times, he must have known that he was in there to make up numbers and be the light relief so, surely it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to him when he gets voted through. Plus, he's been touting for votes on the show since week one asking people to vote for him.
At least one thing though - it all proves that the phone lines aren't rigged any more because if they were he'd have been in the bottom two a few weeks ago!
