Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
Must admit, I can't be doing with all the prattle most contestants put out, answer the question & be done with it right or wrong.

Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
I don't think logic, and Deal or No Deal, can be uttered in the same breath.
I can't watch it.
It's a guessing game!
Calm down.
You superstitious, needy, nutters.

Deal or No Deal: Channel 4 to face commission over gambling concerns | Media | guardian.co.uk
It's taken them seven years to realise it, but (forgive the pun) the penny has finally dropped with the gaming authorities.
The only skill involved in Deal or No Deal is in Noel Edmonds' persuading the contestants the game is anything other than a complete gamble, and he's built a whole aura of smoke and mirrors around it. The death box, the curse of the newbie, the Governor 26,000, spank the banker, the 1p club, the power five etc etc etc.
The truth is that its no less of a gamble than the spin of a roulette wheel.

Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
Really, thanks Gynn. The company I used to work for, before getting in to Aviaition, made SWP Quiz and Bingo Amusement Machines, thanks to a gaming commission deciding that SWP's (skill with prize) should be reclassed as Amusment with prize (AWP) thus incurring lots of backdated tax to be paid, meant they and a large number of manufactures went to the wall.
It has always made me wonder how Deal or No Deal gets away with it, there is no element of Skill involved.

Sorry if her workmates agreed to cover her shifts, they should have given permission,

Suggests the problems went deeper than a simple request for time off!

Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
If she wanted to participate in 'Brain of Britain' I suspect that her employers decision would have been different.
A brainless game show, like the one she took part in , undermines the concept that college lecturers are discerning intelligent people.

Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
'I really hope it's a blue for you.'
'Now lets all hold hands, to increase the chances, like a bunch of sad saps.'
It drives me mad.
I sadly usually see the end of the programme, if I'm tuning in to watch what comes after it.
As thrilling as watching bingo.

Re: The Logic of Game Show Contestants
It as always made me wonder why people enter these "game shows" without a modicum of general knowledge, shows like Weakest Link, Pointless, Perfection, even In It to Win it, last night a guy lost 30k when he didn't know that it was the menai straights between North Wales and Anglesey
