University Challenge winners stripped of title
Corpus Christi college have been disqualified and therefore have had to forfeit their title to Manchester University, as one of their team had already graduated and was therefore no longer a student. That'll wipe the smug smile off their captains face! ha ha ha!

I'm gutted.
Normally I always root for the team nearest to Lancashire, but I really wanted Corpus Christi to win because of all the bad press their captain had.
I think Gail Trimble was magnificant. She was like a machine. I also think she was a good captain and team player. Even when she knew an answer she always conferred with her team before answering.
There have been many team captains who were much more arrogant and smug, and who weren't a hundredth as intelligent as Ms. Trimble.
Still that makes Manchester the winners, and they were a formidable team too.

Re: University Challenge winners stripped of title
Personally i wanted Manchester to win, northern team n all that, but i think its a crap descision, ok rules are rules, but the daft git was in university when the contest started, so i can see how this happened. those who run the contest are as much to blame to me, this could have been avoided if they had been on the ball, to award em, then strip em is crap that needn't have happened. end of the day they are only kids, this aint "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire"

Exactly Garinda .. being academic doesn't make you intelligent.
Sure they knew the rules, but didn't check the basics of entry.
There again, where were the Producers in this ? Wasn't too difficult to check the contestants eligibility was it ?

From what I heard, it's not as if he made a significant contribution anyway...

She was brilliant and the way they film it means that on many occasions team members will have left college by the finals and I've never heard this moaning before. The Manchester captain says they were beaten by a better team and how many times have we seen teams with members who are on "Post Graduate" research?
The BBC (who do NOT make the programme) are being over sensitive since they got done for swindling people out of millions of pounds during the phone in scandals

Re: University Challenge winners stripped of title
It looks like there may be a rematch.
Bogus student claim 'could force BBC into first ever University Challenge rematch' - Telegraph
I wonder what he told his bosses at PricewaterhouseCoopers, whilst he was having time off filming up in Manchester?

Perhaps they should have a phone in costing a quid, and let the fans have their say about a rematch.
Then ignore the results, and just do what they want to do.

Re: University Challenge winners stripped of title
They actually interviewed 3 of the Manchester Team on BBC Breakfast and I have to say I was very Impressed by the attitude of these three guys, they took no pleasure in winning by default and were very sympathetic towards Corpus Christie, great bunch of lads
