Re: Whitechapel
Pointing at the expert on the Ripper at the moment who is giving the young detective the help .. but who knows.
Love this character of the boss detective (sorry didn't pick up the rank ). Cleverly written ... him all tidy like; the others all smelly and messy.
That Phil still doesn't do owt for me though ... he's little as well.

Re: Whitechapel
I wonder if one of the present day Queen's sons will be in the frame for it?

Re: Whitechapel
Not bad for a snowed in Monday night, but there was no good reason for all the inaccuracies - even allowing for artistic license. The first body was found by a PCSO.....on duty at 2am? This is total nonsense. I don't know about Lancashire’s finest, but the Met lot knock off no later than 11pm. There was no excuse for that.
Neither was there an excuse for starting the Ripper tour out by the Order of St John, in Clerkenwell - which is more than a mile to the west of the nearest murder . Most Ripper tours start by Tower Hill - I know, the half wits forking out their Euro's invariably block the tube exit. More than once I have had to shove 'em out the way. Still, that is what we have come to expect from our bad-mannered continental cousins.
There is a pub called the Ten Bells, which in the Ripper's original escapades is where every one of his victims supposedly drank. We may see this pop up in the next episodes. Some time ago, it was renamed the Jack the Ripper; however, this did not go down to well with the local lesbians who were forever spoiling people's drinks by parading up and down outside the place protesting until the pub reverted to it's original name.
Talking about lesbian romps, just round the corner from this establishment is a fruit and veg shop with an original Victorian/Edwardian exterior. I can't remember the name of it, but don't be surprised if that appears as well. That is owned by the lass from Accy...the one who wrote about oranges and other dodgy goings on in our home town. I can't just remember her name, either.

Jeanette Winterson is the Accy lesbian and purveyor of oranges, and other fruits.
I used to go out with someone who lived on Fournier Steet, and the sound of those Ripper tours, heard through the shutters, used to drive me mad...nearly as much as the call to prayer.

You must be a closet muslim and been listening out for the call to Prayer....the Whitechapel Mosque is a good half mile from Fournier Street and any noise coming from there is easily drowned out by the Commercial St traffic.
The tours, though, are a total pain in the arse. They are the most popular of all the capital's guided tours and sometimes I have seen a hundred plus following their guide like demented sheep. Still, for the guide, at six or even ten quid a throw, thats not a bad little earner for a couple of hours work. The Ten Bells, by the way, bars the tour walks.

I've got acute aural senses, but not that good.
'At its eastern end, Fournier Street finishes with the London Jamme Masjid' (Great Mosque)
Fournier Street - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I used to sit in the bath and shout across the street that I wasn't coming to pray...just yet.
My friend lived next door to Gilbert & George, and was the first to move into the street and start the gentrification of the sweat shops.

Re: Whitechapel
did anyone watch it last night?
i have a hunch, i may be way off the mark with this one BUT i reckon its the big police boss who is murdering those women, Commander Anderson or whatever he's called, he has all the inside knowledge of when things are going to take place, he seemed really edgy last night AND its been said numerous times that he is trying to fast track DI Chandler, therefore trying to help him out
like i said, just a hunch, we'll find out next week for sure

They did mention last night the theory that the original Ripper might have been a Royal, but I can't see them fingering one of the present Queen's son for this one.
I love Steve Pemberton, and I suspect it may be him, but dressed up as Tubbs, like he was in League of Gentlemen.
A local Ripper, for local tarts.
