Points allocation on Trivia Quiz

Can anyone explain how the points are allocated on the AccyWeb Trivia Quiz? It doesn't make any sense to me and seems totally senseless.

For example, yesterday I got 9 out of 10 questions correct, but due to a fairly slow time (93 secs) I was in 11th position for the day. I received 6 points for my effort, which was 11 points less than someone who also got 9 correct answers, but in a faster time. Fair enough I thought, faster time = more points.

Then I looked further down and I saw someone had got only 5 questions correct, but had received 4 points. That's only 2 points less than me, who got 9 correct! There was also one player who had got 7 correct answers and in a faster time than the person mentioned above, but also received 4 points! How does that work??

AccyMel, do you have any control over the points allocation, or is it all preset within the quiz? It just seems silly that people who get more right answers, score very few more points than those with fewer correct answers. There seems to be a wild disparity in the points allocation.

Re: Points allocation on Trivia Quiz

As far as I can see the top 10 get the most points and then 11-20 get equal points, and 21-30 get equal points. Will need to check again tonight to see if that theory is correct. The theory of being 11th is correct and it's a big difference from being 10th, I know I've been there a few times

Re: Points allocation on Trivia Quiz

the simple answer is if 25 people play to start with 25points for first place down to 1 point for 25 place.but you have to remember this is an american based quiz and when did they ever do anything the simple way.
keep up the good work accymel certainly more interesting now.

Re: Points allocation on Trivia Quiz

Its both a combination of what Lancsdave & Rishton blue has said, its split into points bracket dependant on answers correct & speed also position in the board at the end of the time.

No i dont set the points out or score - thats fun trivia that do it, i set your daily categories, monitor player database & keep it generally running

Re: Points allocation on Trivia Quiz

I wasn't having a go at AccyMel, just questioning the points thing. Grouping people together by their finishing position seems daft, especially when there are differences in how many questions they get right.

As rishton blue says, when did Americans ever do anything the simple and logical way?
