Re: what...

You should get a current account then - we had around £1,000 in it for a couple of weeks and got 16p.

My other current account I get 5.85% net on my savings, with no tax to pay!!!

Re: what...

One Account - it's an all-in-one, where the mortgage and current/savings account is all together.

This way, the current account and savings offset the mortgage balance, so you only pay interest on the remainder - our monthly repayments reduced by about £100 when my wife got her redundancy payment.

Offsets aren't for everyone though - you need to be quite disciplined with your money, and I haven't met anyone else yet who would benefit from this, and as a mortgage adviser, I see quite a few people!

Re: what...

I'm very disciplined. I have several account books with everything itemised!

I also have several bank accounts! (for different purposes) My mortgage is so tidgy now I don't think anyone else would even take it on. I looked round for smaller interest rate last year and the general reaction is "piddling little amount like that isn't worth bothering about"

Re: what...

If its less than £25,001 you won't get a mortgage from anyone.

If its more, and you want to save even a small amount, it may be worth it.

There's a fixed rate just released of 4.49% for 2 years which is proving quite popular at the moment

Re: what...

It's less - I told you they called it a piddling little amount

Re: what...

Have you thought about transferring it to a 0% credit card?

Re: what...

My one is for 9 months.

I think I must be on my 3rd or 4th one by now, and all the previous ones were for 6 months.

Later on this year I'll move it again, unless I can pay it off before then!!!
