Wirral website
Today I learned there was a website covering the Wirral. I checked it out.
Impressive, buy not as interesting as Accyweb.
Their systyem of joining/registerting is convoluted. Thus, when I looked at it, they had viewing:- 279 members,1472 guests and 95 spiders ( don't ask me - I don't know what they are)
It reinforces my view that this website is the tops. Certainly there's nowt in Lancashire to lick it.

Re: Wirral website
spiders are search engines like google that crawl around the site so you can find things on the website when you do a google search
Have a read of this HowStuffWorks "How Internet Search Engines Work"

It is, and despite the numerous social network sites that have sprung up in recent years, unlike some local forums, Accy Web seems to have weathered the storm.
When I joined up here, both neighbouring Burnley and Blackburn had thriving local forums. Wich isn't really the case now.
I think of Accy Web as one of the top rated soap operas.
Sometimes there are new sets to get used to.
Occasionally a new director is brought in, to give a new perspective.
Once in a while one of the stars is killed off, or departs down a rainy street in a taxi cab.
New characters appear. Some prove popular and become stalwarts of the show. Others simply disappear, and turn up in Casualty months later.
Whatever's thrown at it, it continues to bring in the ratings, and long may that continue.
Fingers crossed.

She's fine.
Just crashed back down to Earth on the Red Rec.
Luckily her re-entry shields meant she had a safe landing.
On a more serious note, as much as some people dislike the fact, I think our politicans making use of this forum, has helped keep it vital, and an integral part of local democracy.
Plus we help journalists, who may be overstretched, source many a good story.

To keep my soap opera analogy going, that'll be your Eldorado, Family Affairs, and Albion Market.
As soon as the public decide it isn't worth giving up their time to watch, ratings slump, advertisers pull out, and the closing credits are cued for the final time.

Re: Wirral website
A brilliant analogy Garidna. If I were a TV watcher, I would love to join in, but instead I scuttle off to hide. I have nowt to offer.
I have recently been thinking that we should find a journalist who will write an article about these websites and place ours where we belong - on t'top.

Re: Wirral website
Doubt if you will find another web site quite like Accyweb, I use other websites, which I quite enjoy, but some how they keep trying to reinvent themselves, the owners of both Burnley and Blackburn Wed (burnley reverted to Lancashire on Line) are members on here, think ones even a mod, or was, and I a way I feel sorry for them working so hard to make things work, the only other site I can think of which is quite good and is frequented by some of our members is Talk Britain, but for some reason I don't bother with it anymore

Famous line from Captain Mainwairing when the private was asked for his name by the Germans. "Don't tell em Pike".
So his name must be Frank Pike.

Re: Wirral website
Perhaps we need to search for a self congratulatory group of website owners that our leader could join for some rather expensive annual fee? (similar to the one our market is in).
Then, we can vote accyweb top of the list and get free publicity for the site splashed all over the local press.
I imagine though, to afford the fee Roy will have to make some cost cutting changes, such as closing the site down 4 days a week? Off the top of my head I estimate that could save him £10,000 P.A. and it would force, erm, I mean encourage a greater keyboard fall, on other local sites.

I see you seem to enjoy the show as much as me garinda, great script and acting.
I like the rambling of old Frazer.
