Hello from another Yorkshireman.

Hello, I have just found this forum by accident and am enjoying it and have already posted a few replies and started one thread of my own.

I was born in Halifax in 1938 and lived in Walsden nr Todmorden from being 8 days old. I went to the local school and then Tod Grammar before becoming an engineer in the factories, including steam engines, for a while I was the engineer for Ducketts Pipe works Burnley and eventually arrived in Accrington (via a marriage) sometime in the late 60's.
After a few jobs I started working for Gilbraith Tankers and lasted 30 years. Other jobs included Coach driving for WC Standerwick, a short spell for Ribble, Then Batty Holt Tours.
I retired in 1988 and am not doing much nowadays but still enjoy a few pints and a look on the Laptop, I enjoy reading but only non fiction.
I still hanker to get back to Walsden but my wife is born and bred Accy lass, we met in the big Crown.

Hope that's enough of me.

Gremlin. R.T.

So you will know my local pub The Cross Keys and my favourite chippy opposite. The wife of a chap who works for my brother owns the chippy and I lived very close from being 8 days old. My step brother lives in the house rent free from us now so it's still in the family after 71 years.I can't remember your auntie but Square rd is quite posh now, the dust bins used to be the Walsden Water which ran down the back of the houses and all the rubbish eventually finished up in the Humber.

Happy days and thank you all for the very warm welcome from Lancashire folk to a Yorky.
