Hi - can't think of a better title!
Just joined, but seem to remember coming across this forum before.
I have known Acci since early 80s as wife is Acci born and bred. Lived here for 8+ years(doesn't seem that long).
For past couple of years I have been working on an idea to put town and district on the map, and have been working with Prospects Foundation to set up a local eco shop and drop-in centre(now called One Planet), where people can come in for advice and we hope to promote both eco products and local produced items. Also since Oxfam closed there has been no base for Fair Trade products, so aim to act as hub for any local group.
Currently trying to find suitable premises in town centre, which won't bankrupt us before we start. Set up as a Co-op so community owned and also shows this business model is a good model for small towns and we can run things ourself, rather than waiting for someone-else to takeover.
I feel very positive about area, but get depressed when so many local people are so negative. Suppose that'san advantage of not being a true local, but had similar feeling where we used to live in Todmorden, and that town is now on the up, and gets good national media coverage.

Start a thread, re: your plans.
Will get slapped by the moderators if an introduction thread turns into a chat, but why not start your Co-op idea on a market stall, with cheaper overheads, until it's up and running?
