Post I worked at Barnes of Accrington...

I worked at Barnes of Accrington for ... 34 years! From boy to director.
Fortunately I also started a curtain and blinds business with my wife Sylvia during my time there.
When Barnes closed I made it into a limited company and with fresh premises and a web site there was no looking back!

I ran a few Karate, Kempo & JuJitsu clubs in the Accrington area. They were good times.

Although I live and work in Burnley, I am still a member of the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade and enjoy the meetings and social events.

Re: I worked at Barnes of Accrington...

Well done to you. That's quite an acheivement.
I regret not training with Derek Gordon. He was the most well known in Kung Fu in.
In those days, you tended to defend your own style etc.
So we started of in Tegatani... a style introduced by Jack Holt. A true Martial Artist!
Of course I did travel and trained with other styles eventually. Fun times indeed. hehe!

Hello Michael, nice to know you are still around. Wish the store still existed! The service from there was second to none. I miss it terribly! Just what did happen to it?

Re: I worked at Barnes of Accrington...

Well Hello there.
Thanks for the photo.
I am afraid I don't have any of those old ones we lent you.
It was such a shame that Barnes could not survive ( like so many)
But I did enjoy working there! And learnt such a lot from Mr Barnes Senior. He was a character!
It is because of my time there, and the diverse roles, that I am now capable of running my own business. :-))

To be honest, I never liked going into Barnes. The guy that served you was a right little smarmy git (hope not you .. LOL)... no, I don't think so. I am 68 and he was older than me. Got the impression was Mr. Barnes ?

Customer Service was not part of his agenda... or was it the new generation of women buyers ?
