My Introduction
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and I guess like new members I blundered in and upset the admin people. It was pointed out that it is rude and annoying to place threads without letting other members know more about you.
Well. I'm a born and bred "southerner". Married and with one son. Having had an Engineering career with a major company for a number of years, I took an opportunity to take early retirement in my mid 50's. This enabled me to pursue a number of interests, sports and pastimes sadly neglected whilst working. Alas I'm affraid it brings out the "Victor Meldrew" and "grumpy old man " attitude conversant with having time on your hands. I much sympathise with the "Last of the Summer Wine" cast. LOL.
I developed an interest in Geneology and have been faithfully researching my family tree. As a spin off ,as my wife and I had "adopted" a dear old 92 year old lady, I offered to trace her background. This turned out to be a difficult task, as her memory had dimmed a might. Her early life and ancestors were surprisingly easy to trace. However life from her early 20's became increasingly more difficult. I tried to get any background information relating to her time living in the Blackburn, Preston, Accrington triangle from the late 1930's and through the war. It was suggested on good authority that this site had a good reputation for knowledge and information of the area and a good source for help.
So here I am asking for help to build on the social history of the life of this lady. I have little to go on other than rough dates and addresses in Blackburn and Accrington around the beginning of the war.
So I welcome any help from members and any resources they may have and ask to look at my thread under searching for family and friends.
Derek
