new starter

Hi folks. I was born in Accrington in 1956. Dad was a Policeman so we moved around in Police houses...Clayton Le Moors, Atherton and finally Little Harwood.
We moved to Australia in 1965 as Dad thought it would be a better life here.
Mum worked at J L Haworths in Accrington before marrying Dad. She was Joyce Ogden, soon to become Joyce Capell (Dad was Jack Capell). Mum is now 78 years old..Dad has passed on, and Mum remembers heaps from the "olden" days but can't remember what she did yesterday!!. If anyone has any old photo's of Accrington and J L Haworths especially, can you please post them as she would love to see them.
Best regards to all...John from Adelaide, Australia.

Yo John from Adelaide ... welcome/bienvenue to AccyWeb International. And I'm sure there are quite a few folks on here who will be more than happy to point you to the pics from the "olden" days that are already on here.

Re: new starter

Welcome young Capell. Your dad was mentioned recently on a Retired bobbies forum I'm on. I hope stuff comes in for your mum about J L Haworth's. I suggest that, rather than using this thread, you start another one and let it grow. There may have already been stuff - click onto 'Search' on the top line, use Haworth's as a key word, and see what's been on.

Re: new starter

thanks Bob, I will do that. Thanks for the mention of Dad, that was good for me. The only other "Bobby" that Dad used to mention as a close friend was Jock Douglas. There was a Jack Dobson that was not in the Police but a mate in his younger days...any relation?
Many thanks...regards..John.

Re: new starter

I knew a PC Tommy Douglas and a 'Jock' but cannot recall his first name. I played foot ball with him and (I think) yoiur dad. He became Sgt in Blackburn. I'll enquire Jack Dobson in Accrington I didn't know.

Re: new starter

Sorry but I miss-heard Mum..she actually said Jack Dobbs...not Dobson.
Dad was promoted to Sgt in Blackburn just before we left. He played football for the Police. He was a mad Burnley fan...I follow Rovers and I never knew they are fierce rivals. Good to see Stanley back, hopefully they can stay up.
To the South Aussie, thanks for the welcome...I am in Northfield.
Regards to all...John.
