Well Accrington is almost central to the UK - in fact the exact centre of the British Isles is only 15 miles away at Dunsop Bridge - theres a gold telephone box in the village with a plaque that officially says so !!!

We were always taught at school that the centre of the mainland British Isles was at Dunsop Bridge. I wonder with all the erosion, especially on the east coast, with many houses falling into the North sea, whether the centre has moved? I've recalculated it and I think it is now in my backyard.
