Re: Accrington Fair
The proper name was Ellison's tenement, which means ground. Ellison St is nearby They were named after the long-established family who owned the land.I was in Acc today and thought I ought to walk down that way to see what's there - but I didn't. IU sear I coyld smell the fried onions.

Re: Accrington Fair
Atarah, last night, (re.meeting on museum in Accy) brought some great 'photos of the fair in Accy ... well before even my time.
They were great ... she remarked that some of the people in them may have been ancestors of any one of us ... how true.

Is Ellison spare ground as you call it the ground by the old Hippodrome. I am sure when we were kids the fair was down there as well as the circus when it came to town.
