Post Accrington Info For Brit In Canada

My name is Simon Haworth and I live in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. My father, Eric, was born in Huncoat, but spent most of his childhood and teen years in Accrington. He hasn't been back to the area since the early 80s and is very interested in recent developments. In particular, he would like me to find and print off current pictures of Accrington, Huncoat, Whalley, Pendle Hill, etc.

If anyone would be kind enough to offer some historical web links, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks very much.

Simon Haworth3

P.S. I have called myself "SimonHaworth3" on this forum because of the other -- and more notable -- Simon Haworths: Simon Haworth the footballer, and Simon Haworth the renowned folk singer/songwriter/guitarist.

Hey George,

Did you know that one of Canada's most notorious murderers came form Accy? Some bloke by the name of Burchall got strung up for murdering another bloke in Oxford County, Ontario back in the 1870's.......anyway, it was the first time that advanced forensics had been used & the guy came from Accy.

key in "Birchall murder oxford county ontario" on your google & you'll find a few references. The best read is by the detective in charge. 2 interesting points - Birchall was a professional conman as well as a murderer & the case made headlines in Canada & England at the time............& his dad was the vicar at Church Kirk! Oh, I got the date wrong...it was 1890.

Have fun!
