Advice

Didn't know which section to put this in so here goes. If you look back over past years, (some of use have more to look back on than others) Can you say what piece of advice you have been given has helped you most on life's journey. I have no doubt at all what mine was, On the Sunday night before I was going to start work for the first time that Monday morning, as an Happyrentice Joiner at R. P. Townley's Burnley Road Acc. my Fathers said when you start work never be afraid yo ask if you don't know something, its far better to ask than to bungle your way through. That's something I always remember, plus another little gem never say "I know" ( especially when your learning) if you do nobody will tell you anything again

Re: Advice

Both my parents told us to hold our heads up high, and to remember we were as good, but no better, than anyone else.

Something I probably didn't do as a child. When after years of being called a puff, I'd try to keep a low profile as possible, so as to avoid further abuse.

I found that useful advice, both personally, and whilst at work.

Our parents certainly weren't boring goody goodies but have/had stong morals. We were told never to lie, speak out if you think something needs to be said, and remember what you were taught at Sunday school. Which I do, even though today I'm an atheist.

Re: Advice

The best bit of advice I was ever given was....'Find something you enjoy doing, then get someone to pay you to do it'.

Work never seems that hard when you enjoy what you are doing.
I have been given lots of other bits of advice along the way.
1) Live within your means.
2) Don't lend stuff that you want to get back....and never lend money.
3) don't borrow unless you are prepared to give back what you borrowed, plus a gift.
4) believe in yourself...you can do anything.
5) don't forget your old friends.
6) do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
7) Save for your old age.

Re: Advice

Can't really pin it down to just one piece of advice as so many people have given me good advice through to this point in my life. But my earliest guidance would be that of my parents, remember we're family & look out for each other, be honest with yourself then you can be honest with others & always give as good as you get.

Pretty good points as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget your friends on the way up.

You might need them on the way down.

Whoops.

Wrong thread.

Thought this was about councillors' expenses.
