no offence taken everyone, I was just in a bit of tizz yesterday, after also being told that the free grit off was no longer on, I only got to know about it from friend of a friend, (I don't buy newspapers, that would only contribute to another pile of rubbish!! hahaha) And Yes Gynn I can see the funny side of it now! Just when people say things like call Dr bernardos and eat your rabbits?? Roast Dog Anyone?

the absorbency on the disposables is rubbish, i would say the nappy changing is getting better but she is a big baby 6 weeks old and and is 13lbs, drinking about 30-40oz per day. I can't go from feed to feed without her complaining half way through (about 3hrs) that she needs a nappy change, its the stupid absorbent !bead! nappy contraptions. I wish I didn't need to be as enthusiastic, and yes I have thought about going up a size, but the nappy drowns her in the waist, she is long not chunky?

Rabbit mess is not the same as kitty mess, its small raisin like pellets in there hundreds, fancy grabbing a scoop and giving it a go, and I use recycled non clumping wood based cat litter, as soon as its wee'd on it turns to sawdust again. The only one I can use as they will eat the cat litter granules??

Its my choice not to use the re usables (convenience is a persuasive argument) I am going through the process of weighing up my options on what to use going forward, but you've got to admit margaretR the 'new baby' poo is hard to deal with, i'm sure it gets easier with the age of the child as the poo becomes more solid but its still at the runny stage....i'm sure you all wanted to know that!!

There are disposable nappy liners which filter the solids and are the size of kleenex tissues - won't take up much bin room.
I can assure you that a toilet flush rinse removes a lot and the Napisan sterilises and deodorises before they are laundered.
Of course common sense says use the hottest cycle on you washing machine and wash separately.

It isn't necessary to boil wash cloth nappies .. 60oC in a non bio washing powder is enough to get them clean. They are cotton, so don't use any fabric conditioner .. it will make them less absorbent.

Mind you, I used to boil them, due to the fact that is what my mum advised me to do.

My ex once boiled a load in a large copper jam pot I had .. didn't fancy the extra flavour it would give to the jam after that !!

if you are using pampers try huggies, i find pampers really naff, they don't hold much

Hell lass, is a long time since I attempted bottle feeding but every three hours, think its time to change the little love to Hollands steak puds

Back in 1967-70, I had three children in three and a half years and used towelling nappies, and I coped - it was child's play! - but green bins have got me beat - I have a garden with several fruit trees and I have two compost bins, but in spite of letters and phone calls, I cannot have a green bin - so instead, I have to buy large plastic sacks, which with great difficulty I have to fill with chopped-up branches and brambles, and the council collects 6 of these each month when I phone them -- A GREEN BIN WOULD BE SO MUCH EASIER!

the council built whole estates , each house with a front,rear and in some cases a side garden yet when you ring for a green bin you will be told you are not in a garden area so you cant have one.Higher council tax bands with smaller and less gardens get one.

I think a couple of steak puds are in order Jaysay, if only they didnt tell you to wean your little ones until 6months nowerdays. But that is a whole different discussion topic, probably headed up by the lovely MargaretR - quote unquote, "back in the day we added baby rice to their milk to thicken it up" <3 (thats a loveheart by the way)
