Because of my work in the NHS I will be quite vocal about my needs.

Re: Are You afraid of needles

I have often thought what would happen if I needed a major op, Can't see were I could have a general anaesthetic, with the state of my respiratory system, I probably wouldn't come out of it, so I'll keep my fingers crossed they never have to make the choice

I never worked on opthalmics as a nurse, I did general theatre instead.

Despite the risks from a GA....I think it would be far better for me - they don't want to be having to chase me down some corridor to get me into theatre.
It was your brother that wheeled me in for my first cataract operation. All went very well, never felt a thing.

Good to hear that. He has said that when the time comes he will hold my hand......I told him it will be more than my hand he needs to hold unless I get a GA.

Depends who's doing the sticking.Iv'e had the same procedure done at both Blackburn and Blackpool.

Blackburn I really felt it but at B'pool it was just like a normal blood sample procedure.

In any case good luck hope you're ok.

Re: Are You afraid of needles

Perhaps Margery one of the other medical experts can explain- when I go to give blood samples or have tests the doctor/nurse has no trouble finding a vein and getting blood.
When my wife goes they stick the needle in all over the place trying in vain to find a vein, causing her great pain.
Are some peoples veins deeper or smaller and harder to find?

Some peoples veins are easier to find than others but on the other hand some nurses are better at the job than others.

Well came through with flying colours, can't believe it but I never felt a think, that's the first time ever. Mind you I've known the nurse for a while and she's always been very good, but she excelled herself this morning, plus my oxygen levels were slightly better that six months ago, so it was a plus all round today
