Bee Keeping
Hi All,
Just wondered if anyone kept bee's? My Dad wants a Bee Hive for his allotment and wondered if anyone knew of the best place to get one and any tips? Thanks

I haven't but did look into it and it did appear a heck of a lot more work than it appears at first. If you google about there is a local group ( Blackburn IIRC) that offered more help.

You will need a bee suit & gloves, a smoker to calm the bees etc etc. Either join a Apiarist society or get some books from the library, you just don't get some bees and away you go. The bees will arrive in a special container with enough food for 4 days. Any way its the wrong time of year to start a new colony, they won't have enough stores to over winter. Honey Bees are a protected species and only bee keepers are allowed to handle them. There is a goverment body that inspects bee hives every 3 years, and you need to comply or lose your bees.
