Re: Black Peas

D'you know, Lancs-born-and-bred black pudding and tripe lover as I am, I don't think I've ever had black peas. Of course, after reading this thread, I desperately want to try them. I haven't noticed them on sale in the supermarkets round here. Are they sold dried in packets - or what?

Re: Black Peas

Yep, they are sold dried in bags as black peas or pigeon peas, think you can still get them in the market hall here, or possibly Holland and Barretts?
Deffo a Bonfirenight staple! Loads of vinegar, I usually soak them overnight and then bring to boil following day before reheating on return from Bonfire!

Re: Black Peas

Last time I had black peas was at the fair when it was held on Ellison's Tenement.

Re: Black Peas

Parched peas was all the rage when I was a kid.
I remember when on the fair at Ewood my two daughters and my misses went to take a ride on some new fangled hurdy gurdy and my youngest daughter them two years old decided that she did not like the ride and tried to escape.
I was at the time stood at the parched pea stall enjoying my peas to be confronted by all of my family in a state of distress and blaming me for not being with them.
We have a laugh at this situation many times.........but I still love Parched peas
