Blackburn Dud-does?

All the references to Dingles in other threads reminded me. My Dad used to call people from Blackburn "Dud-does" Is anyone else familiar with this terminology?

Re: Blackburn Dud-does?

How is it shocking? It refers to the way people there pronounced "did" in the olden days. Instead of "I did do" they apparently said "I dud do"

Re: Blackburn Dud-does?

dud-does? are you sure? only thing I can relate to was when I called round for my mate down west end and his mum came to the door and said.. "he's do-dosed in his pants so he's not playing out"...
which was bad news to me cos he had my bike in his bedroom

Re: Blackburn Dud-does?

yep - my Dad was born and bred in Church and that's what he called 'em - pronounced "dud-whos" - haven't heard it since 1987 when he passed away

Now then Dave, that's a bit harsh, we just make the suggestion that you lot are a bit thick like, we don't make comments about your parentage. It's not on.

Yes, there's a bit of Blackburn blood in me, Just one or two generations you understand.......

I recall hearing it too..back in the dim and distant past.....and i think it referred to the fact that folk from Blackburn had a habit of saying 'did do'......instead of just 'did'....but I am happy to stand corrected if anyone out there knows any different.
