Bonfire Night

Anyone having a bonfire this weekend. I have some wood if anyone would like to pick it up from Whalley Rd/hospital area. Know from past experience that I am not allowed even a small fire in back street. Fireman arrived and put out my "out of control" fire with one stamp of his foot!!

Yep can remember guarding the bommie against interlopers , telling me mum cant come in for tea until one of the lads came and replaced me on duty. And then roaming about to try and find an unprotected bommie nicking their wood and quite often burning what we couldnt carry.
Happy days

We used to have our bonfire in Brigg's yard, it was easy to guard, we stashed our firewood in the unused air raid shelter, all thats now gone under the Tesco filling station in Abbey St. Every year we used to nick John Kelly's firewood of his coyts.

Probably health and safety issues: as in, "if you value your health and safety, stay the eff away from our wood"

I suspect that this year Guy Fawkes will not be burnt on many bonfires; if there are effigys to be burnt, they will be those of various MPs who completely disregarded the wishes of their constituents. At the same time, lots of people will regret that Mr Fawkes is not alive today and in a position to deal with this sham parliament in Westminster.
