Re: Bookworms: What are you reading at the moment?

Well i am still reading "Road to Nab end & Beyond nab end"
But was on Accy market on Thursday and got a book called "The Real Cruel Sea"
its about the battle of the Atlantic through the eyes of a merchant seaman
i have already read about this from a submarine point of view and the royal navy so thought this would be a good follow on

"Hondo" by Louis L'Amour, which I bought while I was in Chicago last year. Why can you never find Westerns in UK bookshops?

I'm making my way through the work of Chuck Palahniuk. I love his sense of humour.
I find it wicked without being grotesque for the sake of it, which haunts some novels that aim for the same effect.

Reading his novel Choke at the moment.

Have finished Assegai, and although a rollicking good read, I considered it to have rather a disppointing ending for a Wilbur Smith novel. Smith's yarns usually finish with a good old blood and guts finale, but the ending of Assegai, for me, was rather a damp squib.

For advocates of Sharon Penman and Philippa Gregory, I have just embarked on a resissued first novel by Elizabeth Chadwick entitled 'The Wild Hunt'. I'm half way through it and can heartily recommend this writer of historical fiction for anyone interested in the genre. Happy reading.

Have finished Elizabeth Chadwick's 'The Wild Hunt' which is a brilliant read, with a proper beginning, middle and ending. Am currently into her 'Conquest' which again, after only five chapters, I can heartily recommend to fans of historical sagas. I readily identify with Chadwick's style of writing which is accurately researched, correctly located and filled with colourful characters.

I'm still reading 100 Years of Solitude, which feels like it's taking 100 years to get through. I've read a few 'classics' recently, but honestly can't see what all the fuss is with this title.
