Bypass speed limit

Dont know if anyone has noticed this but in the accy observer this week in the notices there is one from the secretary of state REDUCING the speed limit on 'highway in the sky' and hassy bypass's to 50 mph. From the roundabout at rising bridge to the intersection with the M65 one way and the M66 the other way. How many people stick to the speed limits anyway?

That is quite a bad road for accidents, dont know whether anyone will stick to the speed limit at 50 as a lot of people go faster than 70 on there

Studies in Ontario, Canada's most road accident prone province, show that it is not speed alone that causes accidents, but aggressive and downright bad driving. It all depends, too, how the coppers decide to enforce the limits. The mere sight of a cruiser tends to have a calming effect. And the coppers here will give you a 10k to 15k break. On the 401, Canda's major highway, particularly in "death alley" from Trenton to Cornwall (and this passes thro' Kingston) most serious accidents involve alcohol, the very young drivers, the elderly, and recent immigrants who come from cultures where the automobile does not dominate as it does here. Rather than post restrictive limits, the govt. tends to improve the highway, taking out some of the worst curves, adding another lane, and moving the rock cuts further away from the traffic, so that if cars do leave the road, they don't go splat.

Lets hope they do, if theres NO signs up its technically a 30MPH limit

I was under the impression that a dual carriageway is 70mph unless there are signs to the contrary ?

Dropping the speed limit will no doubt give an excuse for a speed camera or two.

You'll find a national speed limit sign on dual carriageways unless the limit is lower, not sure if motorways have to display the limit or not, but the only speed zone that doesn't need a sign is 30mph - or at least that used to be the case

I thought 30mph only applied to built up areas.

think a better idea would be a limit of 40 mph from the huncoat end to rising bridge and a 90 mph the opposite way, - reason being = to escape from jen.

I'd suggest you are going to have to drive a bit faster than that when she reads the post

It's hard to set any speed limits, accidents can happen at any speed, it's the resulting damage that's different. Drivers need harder and more stiffer driving tests as conditions and age changes, more education and shock videos to try to stop speeding drivers.
