Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
I can't help as I left Oswaldtwistle 46 years ago, have lived in the Midlands, North East, the Middle East (world, not UK) and, for 32 years, Cheshire and, I'm told, I don't have a discernable accent.
I would, however, urge you to try Warrington (10 miles from where I live) in your quest into local accents further afield. The true Warrington tongue has a mixture of Manchester and mid-Lancs. It's a fairly horrible accent but, these days, it's being superceded by Scouse, as so many have moved this way from Liverpool, and it may well disappear in a couple of decades - which is a shame - even if it is horrible.

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
I used to work on Accrington market many years ago and I could tell where people came from by their accents......Blackburn, Burnley, Darwen and Padiham...all different though not separated by many miles

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
Although I am not old, only 30, I have a very broad Lancashire accent. I have lived in Oswaldtwistle all my life and even use Lancashire dialect sometimes....I have been told I sound more like a Grandad than a 30 year old woman!

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
I think I lost my accent in southern Saskatchewan .... not too far south of Moose Jaw. If I run into it, I may be able to help, eh.

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
A very polite young man - 2 hours just 'flew'
I didn't lay it on with broad dialect or marbles -just normal -that's what he wants

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
I think young Will is going to have alot of fun with the lingering rhoticity in Accy and Districts, as compared to some of our neighbours. Shame I can't help; it is exactly 30 years since I moved to the smoke and these days I shift between PSP (Posh Southern Pillock for the uninitiated), Mockney and it is only every three weeks or so that I revert to the home tongue.

Re: Can you help with a survey of local accents?
I can help Will, although I am older than your age spec I have lived in Accy all my life and was born here; my daughter also was born and bred here, she is 12.
