For all the people that've voted for him, don't forget he's a die hard Tory, and he'd have most of you doing National Service or sweeping the streets before you can say stone washed denim.
So that explains why I took an instant dislike to the chap - feminine intuition- now justified dislike

Re: Clarkson for PM?

Do you really think he gives a toss about 500 quid? He gets 1.6 million off the BBC per series of topgear. And personally i think he as proven what he said was right. he gave out his details and only one person did that? One person out of how many readers?

I don't understand this because every time you write a cheque you are giving people that information. In order to set up a DD surely they needed his password to do it online or to sign in his name to do it in branch. If they did the latter then the bank is at fault because the signature is forgery. If they did the former then they knew more than the info he provided.

And as for not revealing who did it due to the data protection act that's barmy. It's fraud for goodness sakes. The criminal shouldn't be protected, the customer should.

Apparently the person who conned Clarkson, and happily proved him to be wrong, knew that the chosen charity didn't need anymore information other than the bank detail, and didn't a signature.

I laugh everytime I look at Ann Widdicombe, but I wouldn't want her to be P.M.

This is just totally unacceptable and needs to be stopped.

There has been movement in how you can set up DD's recently. Because the DD guarantee gives you the right to full refund in event of false or incorrect payments Banks as a whole have started accepting DDs without signature. IMHO I think its wrong but unless we all start complaining it won't be changed.

It can make it easier when say setting up a regular payment for say car insurance but I think it should at very least come with some form of identified payment ( signature, PIN entry or Card security, although I don't like this last one myself [1] )

Still As Willow says this info is not hard to get hold of.

[1] So we are told 4 digits are required for security of a pin but suddenly 3 digits are OK for card security????

Re: Clarkson for PM?

But again Ian every time you buy something over the phone and are asked for those 3 numbers that's the security of it immediately gone because the person you speak to now knows as much as you do.

I wonder how many people realise how easy it is to forge a cheque too because the signatures are never verified.
