Re: cold weather payments

I dont get any cold weather payments either (have a 'works pension'), but I don't begrudge it to those that do.
I have £25 a week more than them every week of the year, and some people are raising the next generation on the amount per week I get for just me.

I might feel a bit guilty about having a 'comfortable retirement', but I did work 35 years full time to get it, and I don't use my doctor and so spend quite a bit on alternative medicine.

I have checked our bank accounts again today and not a single payment over the usual has gone in.

I was told by Welfare Rights that I am NOT eligible for any payments because I have too much money coming in each week.
The nice lady said it was unfortunate that all the taxes I paid over 50 years (I still pay now at 71 years old) would be shared out amonst those not working and not me, her words not mine.
Never mind I will get over it now it's warming up.

Re: cold weather payments

I am with British gas for Gas and Electric, i get this through card and key which i can top up from my pc.
Being on Benefits they said in November they would put me on a tariff called "essentials" which is much cheaper rate than the standard rate.
The other day i got a statement from them for the gas it said i was still on there standard tariff for Gas but on the essentials for electric so i gave them a call,
the nice man on the other end of the phone took my details and asked for a meter reading and said he would phone back in one hour which he did.
He apologised and said i was owed £30 as an overpayment
He said you should get this next time you top up
I have just topped my gas by putting £10 on and the meter registered £40
what a nice man
But that's not the end of it he also said as i was on the "essentials" tariff and it had been such a bad winter they where giving everyone on "essentials" £50 back.
When i topped my electric key up with £10 this morning it registered £60 on the meter what a very very nice man

Re: cold weather payments

What wonderful news for a change.

I too am on the Essentials tariff and received a letter from those nice people at British Gas informing me that I was getting £50-00 the next time I top up my gas or Electric.

I also find it much easier to top up my Gas card and Electricity key from the comfort of my own home.
What a lovely change to find a really helpful company that look after their customers.

I made a phone call to the department responsible for the payments and got told I was not eligible because I had a company pension and a private pension in addition to my and my wife's state pension.
I didn't realize it was an earning related payment..
I explained that I had worked, paid taxes and N.I. for 45 years and done my army service protecting Betty Windsor and Phil the Greek. The very pleasant young man who spoke to me gave me an address to write to asking for a review.
I have now decided to give up hope of receiving the payment.
