Criminals and their Debts

Seen the news today and that Kate Knight (the lady who poisoned hubby with anti-freeze) got her sentence. Apparently she did it to claim insurance and clear debts.

What actually happens to those debts, are they written off, are they put on hold for the duration of the sentence or does the taxpayer pick up the tab

good question, i assume they are written off, same way as some debts are,who picks up the tab???
