Cross on the Coppice!

Hello Accringtonians could anyone let me know if they have put the Cross on the Coppice this year? What day does it go up? Palm Sunday? This question may have been asked before but I need the information as I am writing a novel and need it for research! Thanks.

Yes it's there - or at least it was when I looked before we left on Monday but can't say that I noticed it today. I'll have another look when I go out later. I think it goes up on Palm Sunday.

Re: Cross on the Coppice!

The parade to take up the cross happend on sunday gone, though the cross was already up before the actual parade. They usually take one as a symbolic gesture even though the cross is already on top of the coppice, but this year they didn't do it.

They call that Palm Sunday - I am sure that they used to carry the cross up and put it up at the same time. Were does the other cross come from?

Re: Cross on the Coppice!

The cross on the Coppice goes up on the Saturday before Palm Sunday. This is erected by the Accrington Knights of Saint Columba. On Palm Sunday a procession, carrying a light wooden replica goes from Broadway to the summit. This procession is an interdenominational procession made of of all member sof the Christian community in Accrington. On Good Friday an interdenominational group go from the top of Avenue Parade making the Stations of the Cross. On Easter Sunday at 7.30 am a group meet on the summit of the Coppice to welcome Easter Sunday withy prayers

Do you have Planning Permission ?

Always looks good though. Why can't we have one outside the Market Hall too like we have the Christmas Tree ? Not easy for everyone to get up the Coppice.

Well I haven't noticed it when I've looked in that direction, perhaps the person objecting to wind turbines up there wouldn't find them so objectionable & intrusive after all?

Probably cos Jesus wasn't crucified in front of a market hall. it can be seen from many points on the coppice.

I know Cashy ... have sung 'There is a green hill far away' many times.

Christian Lyrics - There is a green hill far away Lyrics - There is a green hill far away - Lyrics On Demand

Just could never understand what good it did being nailed to a cross for mankind. Not exactly good parenting is it.

Hey, can get that as a ring tone.
