Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

For me, I'd say 5 years both ways is enough...my fella is younger than me, but only by 15 months, for me i would not, at my age now, go with a 45 year old fella or a 25 year old....anything 30 to 40 is fine, but that is if i was single

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Having had twenty five happy years with Ian who was fourteen years older than me I would say age gap relationhips can and do work. The problems are caused by outsiders who can't get their head round the fact that two people of different ages can be happy. Maybe they are the ones with the problem but at the end of the day it is nothing to do with anybody else.

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

My hubby is only one year older than me.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with a fella who was a lot older or a lot younger than me but that's just me.

As has been said, if the couple concerned are happy with each other, I can't see a problem.

I don't see a problem if the relationship is based on mutual love and respect. It's only the rather silly people, ladies in particular, who fall for much younger non-Britons on holiday and bring them here, give them all their money then get dumped.

Don't think its just a problem with "women of a certain age" , it also applies to men in middle and late-middle age who think its a good idea to hook up with/marry some nubile 17/18 yr old who they fall in love while on holiday in the far-east . The excuse being 'these women know how to look after a man, not like the women at home' .

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

I think everyone imagines that being the same age is the ideal because you've been through the same period in history, fashion, music, politics etc. I think it's the ideal because you've this shared connection before you even get started.

But the truth is (speaking as a person who has just spent the last 12 years with someone 10 years younger) that this is only part of the attraction and only part of the reason it could work. And when it all boils down to it, it's only a small part of it.

There are times when Chris will ask a question that is age related i.e. what was the general mood of the country when Thatcher was elected (or something like that) and of course, I'll speak from experience, for example I saw the first moon landings and he didn't. And sometimes I'll say something about a pop group and then say, oh, you were too young to remember them.

But the majority of the time - 99.9999999% of the time, we're talking about work today, the kids, what's going on in Ossy, politics etc.

It's who we are, what we've done and who we've become that makes it work right here and now for us.

So, that was a very long winded way of saying - age doesn't matter one jot if you're happy.

wow... you have some very intelligent conversation in your house... most conversation in my house revolves around ben 10 and sonic the hedgehog

i know its not an issue at the moment, since he is only 7 but i dont think i would ever be comfortable with a fella around the same age as my son (when he is older i mean obviously) i tend to go for the older guys anyway.

Age doesnt matter as long as the people involved are happy with it.
