It's actually all concrete rubble on reclaimed land which has a very thin layer of topsoil on. Nothing much to anchor into unless you have very. very strong pegs. We managed it with heavy duty ones and even through the worst of weather last summer the tent stayed up and in place!

The view of the power station does leave a lot to be desired though and the beach isn't exactly a beach - but if you don't mind walking a bit there is a lovely stretch of beach between Heysham and Morecambe.

If you fancy going a bit further there's a beautiful campsite near Corfe in Dorset.

Incidentally it's the exact location for Mike Leigh's classic play Nuts in May, and hasn't changed at all since this was filmed in 1976.



By the way, I think they accept nuts there all year round, not just in May.
