Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

Does anyone know if the council takes away wrapping paper in the recycling bag or should it go in the general rubbish? I've tried ringing but no answer at the council!

Mrs Chips says it depends on the paper. If it's normal, tape-free stuff with no metallic bits then it can be recycled. Otherwise it can't - a guy came in from the council to talk to her school last year. I don't argue with her, I know my place.

Actually, as someone who works where it is made, there are actually 2 different types of "paper"

1 plain good old "paper" printed any colour you like !!!

2 laminated "film onto paper" gives a shiny thicker paper and can be coloured, or metallic or holographic

How do you know which ????

tear em !!! - plain paper rips easily as normal whereas its hard to rip the film laminated stuff, as you will be trying to rip a plastic film

So in reality - the laminated should be put in the non-recyclable bin as it is a plastic, but not a recyclable one

Seasons Greetings Everybody

Re: Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

I still think Hyndburn Borough Council should use their website to give a more detailed guide, as to what can, and can't, be recycled.

Christmas cards, paper or card?

Margarine and yoghurt tubs, can they go in the plastic bottle sack?

Plus countless other products and their packaging.

It's months since I first suggested it. It would literally take someone a couple of hours to do it, and could save tons of waste being unnecessarily sent to landfill sites.

HBC, like we have to...sort it.

Re: Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

I once got info from them by email-
Cat food pouches, which the manufacturers describe as foil, aren't foil for recycling purposes, but the cat food foil containers with the peel back lids, are.

I am meticulous about cardboard - even recycle the innards of toilet rolls and Rizla paper tiny boxes

Re: Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

I wonder loads of time if I'm contaminating the recyclables by putting things in that don't belong - or risking a fine by putting recyclables in the wheelie bin.

Re: Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

We used to put plastic packing in the sack, along with milk bottles, margerine cartons etc, came home to find that half the stuff put in the sack was still in it, no explanation, and some of it was in the garden, we just put the stuff in that we know they will take now, it's bad enough that we do all the work for the council to make all the money, but to filter what they don't want is, to my mind, ridiculous!

Re: Does Wrapping Paper Recycle?

They should make a proper list of what can go in where and let us all know in the Observer or on their Website or even a leaflet when the recycling bags are returned - not that our newspaper one ever gets returned.
