Dreaded chicken pox

Does anybody have any tips on how to stop a 6 year old from scratching her chicken pox? I have used the oatmeal in the bath along with camomile lotion but yet she still continues to scratch!

I don't really think there is alot more you can do than what you are already doing. Just keep your eye in her.

I swear by anti-histimean (excuse spelling), periton or similar. You can get it in liquid form if the child is to young for tablets.

There isn't a lot you can do, and oh they do itch. Piriton might help, check with your pharmacist. You might be able to get an anaesthetic ointment, but I'm not sure how much/how often you can use it, particularly on children. Again, pharmacist will be able to help.

I've still got a scar on my tum, 50 years on, from scratching my chickenpox.

Re: Dreaded chicken pox

Thanx all but i ended up having her at the doctors who perscribed anti histamines, she had a reaction due to her bad skin. Luckily she is now on the mend and they have dried up so no more scratching.

Re: Dreaded chicken pox

So glad to hear she's on the mend. I had chicken pox about four years ago when Zack was a baby (he had it too) and Maddie was just over two and a half. It was a nightmare and I have great sympathy for anyone who gets them.

Re: Dreaded chicken pox

There is something you ought to know about chicken pox.
The virus remains in the body, and may. in some cases, re-emerge as Shingles in middle age or later.
This is very painful and immediate treatment will lessen the pain.
Shingles can occur in various parts of the body.

Re: Dreaded chicken pox

Eurax lotion is good to stop the itching as is the piriton recommended above. Calamine lotion was useless in my opinion, check the age on the Eurax lotion i think its ok and you can buy it OTC.
when my 14 month old had them he got them in his mouth in his eyes and other not nice places.......I'll preserve his dignity he's 4 now!

hope this helps.
