Duck at clayton

Just wondered if anybody knows what happened to the white duck with the red beak that seems to always be under the canal bridge at clayton near the con club? It was always very friendly & came to us everytime we passed by & the wife used to feed it. I know that somebody had been dumping oil in the canal & some ducks had to be taken away to be cleaned up so maybe it got taken with those

Re: Duck at clayton

I saw a lovely white duck on Monday, 20th September at this very place as I walked along the canal, Dave. Course can't be sure if your duck ..lol., or if you have missed it after the 20th ?

I took particular notice as was comparing it with the white duck that sits on my lawn ... it was quite a large one and, yes, did have very red folds around its beak. Its eyes were particularly bright.

Also took a picture of some swans just a little further up with this year's signets.

P.S. You shouldn't feed ducks.

Thanks for the response Katex. It must be 3 months since we saw that duck & we walk along the canal maybe 2 times a week. Post a pic of the one that sits on your garden if you get chance please. It will cheer the wife up if thats the one lol. Nice pic btw

This is 'my' duck, but it never flies anywhere, and doesn't fit your description. Feel sure that was 'your' duck I saw the other day. It did have an entourage of female mallards though, so perhaps has got a little occupied ...

Not a goose, Mancie ... get yer glasses out ...

The only shooting of animals I would do is the one I have done already with my camera.

Re: Duck at clayton

I was puzzled too - it does have a long neck, so is more gooselike.
Needing an excuse not to get the hoover out, I websearched for duck and goose photos.
I am still confused, because some ducks have longer necks than others, and they even interbreed to make 'Gucks'

I think the only way to tell is by the noise they make - geese don't quack they honk

According to this
Aylesbury Ducks: Species information and Photos
True Aylesbury ducks have pink beaks, though both pink and orange are shown
