Hey Jackie - was there still a chunk missing from the corner bath in the bridal suite (above water level - left corner)?

RE Sponges
I dont lie - thats the way it was the one day I was there. I remarked about it to the girl who was showing me the ropes --"thats the way it is here"
In addition --- she advised me to steam sterliize the crockery and cutlery I was to use to eat my 'staff lunch' ---- I watched as they all did it.
That was the way it was 13 years ago --maybe (and likely) your employment was after that. The girl who was the senior chambermaid was Hazel (my advisor) and I remember reading about her promotion to Housekeeper. Maybe she was responsible for some improvements (likely)

i was there in 1995 i think and we never had sponges,we were told to use the facecloths for the 2 weeks i was there anyway, and as for the lunches i never had one i took a packed lunch as i was told by the chef at that time that the food was leftovers from the night before, and you had to pay for them out of your wages,so i took my own buttys,as for the bath i dont know which one you mean, but i did have to do the room with the jaccusi and there was blood all over the bathroom and loads of wine glasses and empty bottles, the room was suppose to be booked for a man on his own lol,

I am surprised you lasted out a fortnight
I recollect two cringe factors - dirty bloodstained blankets and scooping pubes off sheets

i had no choice it was my work experience, and staff were leaving or not coming into work and i had to do the rooms on my own,i also had to pay adult price bus fair due to me waring the uniform,i was told by the bus driver to bring some id with me if i wanted to pay child fare, now what sort of id do you have as a 14/15yr old,we used to find alsorts like watches and earings and not to mention all the underware,it all had to be handed in,but i kept the tips for myself,i did the rooms so i thought it only fair, plus i didnt get paid, most of the money was foreign and i still have it,its no good to me but its a reminder of my school years

Surprised by this remark Margaret, seeing as the Dunkenhalgh has always been on linen hire .. in other words, they don't own their own linen, hire from the laundries, and all you needed to do was scoop it up and put in the laundry bags 'til the drivers from said laundry came to collect and gave you lovely white sterile linen to lay on the beds.
By the way, the Executive Housekeeper is now a Moira Smith.

Sheets and pillowcases were fine, but blankets, not duvets, were in use in most rooms and didn't look as though they were replaced when room occupancy changed. Sheets weren't changed until room occupancy changed (or after a few days if the stay was more than a few days)
So when making a bed (not renewing bedding) the pubes needed removal

Ok .. agree re. blankets and duvets .. have stayed in hotels where they have that certain smell .. but they need specialised treatment and the linen should protect these.
The guest, if staying for more than one night has the facility to request a change of bedding if they feel they have had 'accidents' (just give housekeeping a buzz) .. or common sense of the staff should prevail.
Anyway, how do ya' know 'tis pubes .. could just be hairy chests/legs...

Re: Dunkenhalgh Hotel
Well it was curly so not likely to be from legs, and its location on the sheets was another indicator.
If it had been from a Rovers footballer's room I could have sold it on Ebay

Re: Dunkenhalgh Hotel
Stayed there once a few years back and it was fine except for extortionate bar prices.
Also went to meet a " friend" who was staying there a couple of years back, he went off to the bar in search of peanuts/crisps and was told " No Sir, we do not keep those type of snacks. Would Sir care for a portion of deep fried butter beans ? " Hmmmmm.

there was a linen cupboard in the hotel with more than enough linen,i know i locked myself in there once and was banging on the door for 20 mins, the linen did get sent out to be cleaned but the store romm had around 5 month supply of linen,i would say if they did hire it that it was prob very expensive to have that amount in store, and i never changed any of the bedspreads once ,yuk
