Think Royboy earache from swimming pools is just summat to do with moisture getting trapped, there again, I am not a medic.
In my younger days in both the Far East and in the UK...........I was swimming training three times a day and picked up no end of infections...I made a point of fully drying out my ears but still it happened....even wore specially adapted ear plugs to no avail.
If there is an infection lurking in the pool...you will get it.

I have also heard that because the water is stagnant, there is more chance of ear infections. Also, you never know what you are swimming in!! everyone else's muck and germs!! But telling kids not to go into a pool on hols is out of the question ..... so must take the rough with the smooth I guess.

Just glad I got him into the docs today, when I first rang they said they had nothing til Monday!! That soon changed

Re: Ear ache!!

I used to suffer exactly the same thing when landing. I always had bad pain, particularly in my right ear which has 60% hearing loss (cause unknown). Then I discovered Cashman's trick of holding nose, shutting mouth and blowing hard. I now sit there blowing away, ears a-poppin', and it doesn't hurt a bit.

It would if you had an ear infection like this child had.

Yeah, it was my lads right ear too!! Chewing gum didn't seem to help. As I said, landing in Palma, he was fine, but it was quite a bumpy landing in Manchester ( got my cheeks flapping anyway ) so I think that is what as done his ears as well as the infection.

Probably a one-off Slinky, so don't worry ... can pick up infections at any age .. doesn't necessarily mean he will be susceptible to this particular type.

Well of course it would but where the problem is susceptibility to pressure, rather than infection, the "ear blowing" helps.

Well of course it helps...thats down to altitude...if you try that procedure with an ear infection it will hinder rather that help.
Two different subjects?

Re: Ear ache!!

glad he is feeling better slinks, I was about to post a remedy that has helped me this week but no need... I have also had an ear infection and a perforated ear drum it has knocked me sideways I can tell ya.

Wish mine had at least been caused by swimming in a pool on a foreign hol
