Re: Epilepsy

My dad suffered from epilepsy fron his mid-30's onwards -it's something that runs in the family -i have a cousin who was diagnosed late because her attacks happened while she was asleep -a sort of narcolepsy.....It is something you learn to live with, in our case in the 1970's, my sister and i knew the signs of the onset of an attack and ,like my mother, knew how to stop the car or guide him to stop it when an an attack began --I remember in particular once on the Clitherore bypas and once just off the Pyrenees on holiday.....

Re: Epilepsy

It has left me very emotional, i feel i am now on a mission to find this young man, to make sure he is ok and that he has support and friends around him....as from what he told me when he was coming out of his seizure, he had no parents, and was living in citizen housing ( i don't know what citizen housing is ) so i am left feeling very sad for him....i am very stressed as i feel i need to find and help him.

Take a few deep breaths and calm down, you have already stated that you intend to learn more about epilepsy and do some voluntary work, if you are true to your word and do this, in a way you will be helping him.

However making yourself ill worrying won't do him, others or youself any good!

I took my deep breaths, but still remained on a mission..... and i FOUND HIM .....Hooray ...i can relax a little knowing he has support around him, and ive asked him to keep in touch..next step to learn more about epilepsy, and to calm myself and take a deep breath, and hopefully i won't be too emotional to maybe offer some help to someone, somewhere.

Having already helped this one person, you have no need to doubt your ability to be able to do so again. So many people don't intervene when they see a situation where a stranger needs help (people have been left to die on the street in big cities in similar situations with people walking by and looking the other way)....you have the heart of a true samaritan, I think you were just a little in shock after your first ever encounter with someone having a seizure! It would be less of a shock if it ever happened again.
Glad you found him and i hope he appreciates your efforts!

Re: Epilepsy

if he hasnt said thank you for looking after him .. then i'll say it for him .... thank you ..

when people come out of a seizure they are confused ... i dont know how i get to bed after ive had one .. i just wake up in bed .. and know that ive had one due to the after effects .. i know what its like to have one out and about .. and a couple of members have seen me have one and luckily they knew what was happening because they knew me ... and knew i had epilepsy ... a lot of people see someone fall down and start jerking or whatever .. and they either dont want to get involved or think someone else will help or theyre drunk etc ...and so carry on walking by .. you didnt .. you stopped your car and helped .. a lot of people wouldnt .. but you did ... and as it was the first time that you'd seen one you will be a bit shocked .. but you did ok ... and looked after him ...

Re: Epilepsy

My Grandma had another 2 fits yesterday, luckily she seemed to have had it just before the carers got there yesterday morning.

She had bit her tongue and the paramedic's informed us if they had got there ten mins after they did she wouldnt be with us as she was choking on her own blood. They had to act very quickly to keep her breathing.
Full day at hospital yesterday and she is still there today as she had another fit yesterday afternoon in the hospital so still very tired and confused.

Been looking on the internet for something with regards to my Grandma and came accross this, every one should have a quick read "just incase" they come accross anyone fitting to help them.
