Feeling fat !!!
Why do clothes manufacturers not stick to the same sizes? I have just bought a dress fro Oli.com and it goes no where near me looks like it was made for someone 2 sizes smaller unless I have expanded over night. Feeling fat and depressed, does anyone else have this problem? It's about time all manufacturers made things to exactly the same measurements as each other so I would not feel like a lardy arse

Re: Feeling fat !!!
It's incredibly frustrating when you go into clothes shops and find that you're a different dress size in each one. I'm normally a size 12 but in some shops I've been a size 10 and in others a size 14....very annoying as it means you have to try everything on, you can't just pick up a size knowing it will fit.
I don't know why women's sizes are set out like that anyway....10, 12, 14 etc.
Why can't they be like the men's sizes....chest sizes in inches. Surely this would be easier.

Get size 24 and have it altered to fit.
I'm sure someone on Accyweb would oblige.......at a price?

they probably do it cos they know women try all the bloody shop on when they go clothes shopping, never a thought fer the poor bloke who has to stand outside in all weathers chainsmoking n wondering how much its gonna cost.

Re: Feeling fat !!!
This is still a common grumble I'm afraid .. you just have to learn to take at least two sizes to try on in the dressing room, to see which fits best and then forget about the label.
I know for instance that if I am buying a suit... Next Jacket ... size 8, but the pants will be a 10; Jane Norman .. 10 or 12, New Look .. always a 10 top, Marks .. size 8 top, pants 10, and so on. It can depend on the material too .. even though I am narrow shouldered, a bit busty (34d) so sometimes a size 8 will fit on shoulders but not around the chest if tailored, then the 10 will be too big on the shoulders, but if stretchy is fine.
Last time was out with Grandaughter, she tried on a straight skirted dress in a 12 ... was far too tight.... would not try on a 14 because she insisted she was not that big !! Pleaded with her to ignore the size label. Thank goodness she bought another dress .. would have split the original choice on first wear.
Just buy what fits yer.
Just buy what fits yer.
Couldn't agree more to much obsession with sizes. Buy what fits you but more important what you feel comfortable wearing, just ignore the tag that means nothing

Re: Feeling fat !!!
Sure some of them will say they are smaller than they actually are so you get a woman buying it because then she can say she's a size 10 or whatever... as for women with clothing I'm sure nobody is ever happy - my girlfriend is tall and thin and therefore the sleeves never fit on anything - my mum is a larger lady so struggles because of that. The joys of being male... if something doesn't quite fit I'm not that bothered haha

Re: Feeling fat !!!
Women's sizings are mad.
There is no industry sizing.
I've worked for a few women's fashion companies, and everyone has a different set of rules.
Instead of the E.U. demanding that bananas have a certain amount of curvature etc., you'd think there would be a law that all companies stick to one set of measurements.

Re: Feeling fat !!!
The thing that amuses me about womens clothes are not the actual clothes but the women themselves, how many times do you see a woman who wears a dress which is a least two sizes to small and then have the cheak to say i'm only a 14 you know blokes are a lot different they just get a shirt xxxlarge and be done with it covers the beer belly quite well

Re: Feeling fat !!!
I buy what fits to be honest, if the size label offends me then i just cut it out. I vary in size from shop to shop and all depends on the style of the clothing. I am a size 14 in tops but depending on the style I sometimes have to go to a 16 maybe even an 18 because of my body shape (I have my darling twins to thank for then one ) but in pants I vary from a 14 to a 18 depending again on the style / fitting of them. Its never easy shopping and more oftne than not I will head for the size 16 and then have to put it back and go one up or one down. I just hazard a guess and hold it to me just to check before I start trying things on. The boys dont like clothes shopping with me so have to make it quick

Womens sizes are wrong...most of the time, with all this weight loss, i now need a size 12/14, but i still dont believe it!......tried on a size 12 and it fit me .....tried on a 12 else where and it dont fit!...work that one out!..GRRRR
The kids are worse, i have to get adult clothes for my daugter!, shes only 14!!...therefore i have to pay tax on the bloody clothes
As for my son he's in 8/9 yrs and hes only 7.....typical!

I dont think anyone can say that they are a size 12 or whatever anymore because the sizes vary so much. My sister has just the same problem and she's a size 6. Sometimes has to get an 8 and other times has to get a 4. Its silly that they arent all a standard size. And yes, when you do have to go up a size eventhough we know they arent the same from shop to shop it does make you feel fat
