garden waste - help required..
I am in the process of re-doing my back yard - I got rid of my old flag stones and cleared the ground of all rubble and excess soil down to the base - I now have about 30 bags of garden waste in builders bags ( not black bags ) sitting outside my back yard and I ask you good people if you know of anyone or a company who would be willing to take them away before the local kids start emptying them out and making a mess - I would of course pay but not over the odds as I called one number in the press and they wanted a small fortune so here I am asking if anyone knows someone who may be able to help me out.
I forgot to say that the council wont come and pick it up as its soil and not grass - and they can only take 5 bags per month !! - remind me again why I pay my council tax ?
thanks.

Re: garden waste - help required..
The council won't take it! Oh boy I'm glad it isn't Monday yet because I want to have a moan.
Surely it is the council's responsibility to remove it? You as a good, clean, tidy, law abiding citizen have bagged all this up and it needs removing. Surely they should have a responsibility to shift it for you?
Then they wonder why people resort to fly tipping.

Re: garden waste - help required..
That's typical HBC barmy isn't it? Garden waste has a separate skip up at the tip but because they won't collect it as such it ends up in wheelie bins and going in with all the non-recyclable, non-biodegradable stuff! Good old HBC (still checking, no it isn't Monday yet?)

Re: garden waste - help required..
when she told me that they only collect grass cuttings I told her that its (the bags of soil) are no different from any other garden waste - end of the day its waste and its from a garden - whether its grass or soil shouldnt matter - she couldnt reply to that bit - and the other reason I phoned the council was to complain as the bin lorry drove over some of the bags and burst all over the alley - now the bags were stacked in a row against the wall so they wouldnt be in the way but the bin lorry still managed to hit them - when I told her this she said to me ' maybe the driver thought it was normal rubbish ' - I asked what difference does that make - he still drove over bags and burst them - I then said that they are in builders bags and its clearly obvious cos of the name of the builders - she then asked if I would like to make a formal compliant - said yes and an inspector will be out in a couple of days - I said thats pointless as the mess will be cleared up inside 30 mins so when your inspector comes round there will be no mess - her reply - well he will be coming anway , thank you and the phone hangs up.

Re: garden waste - help required..
If they are working on the principle of composting the grass cuttings etc (which I think is what they do) then your soil wouldn't be out of place with it because it has a head start doesn't it?

Re: garden waste - help required..
Glasgow Guy, I would do either what Mez said and slowly get rid of them or transfer into blackbags witha bit of grass on top and tell the council its garden waste. I recently phoned the council myself as I'm in the middle of sorting out my Mums back garden and I was told they can only collect 6 items per call but its ok to phone again as soon as they've been, this to me doesn't make a lot of sense surely its easier to take the lot than to make a return visit but there you go.

Re: garden waste - help required..
It's ridiculous. I also have to slip the odd bag of garden waste in with my normal rubbish because although there are several back gardens on my street, I am not in a garden area. I reckon that we are not entitled to green bins around here, because we are in a band A area. My mate, who is in band B gets a bin, it's discrimination.......
Removal man's offer sounds like a good one.

Re: garden waste - help required..
This has got me thinking.
There may be people in other areas with bigger gardens who would love a bit of extra topsoil or a bit of somethng to add to their compost. Maybe we should start up a "compost exchange" and those with surplus can donate it to those in need.
