Halal butcher?

You are indeed correct Margaret, also any beef gelatine will come from halal slaughtered beef.
Don’t see many with substitute gelatine myself.

I used to work with some Muslim girls and they would not accept sweets when they were handed around, but they used to bring in their own sweets and hand them around.
They told me that their sweets contained an alternative to gelatine.

I know they are out there, probably not as much now though. I work in the confectionery industry and do the ingredients labels, most gelatine products we use either have pork, beef or halal beef. Some say just "gelatine" maybe these are the substitutes, there are only a very few of these though.

I think some of the girls got them sent from their home country...the packs they were in were not something you would see in a sweetie shop here.
