I suppose there is very little food that we would eat if we got microscopes to it, for instance salad and fruit must contain some insects or small insect parts.
We used to have a mass of blackbuerries growing our garden and I masde them into jam. When I was spreading some I found a (still live) small caterpillar in the jar!!!

I have no idea how it survived but it did. the jam was made in the microwave but still heated to very high temnperature or it would not have set

Re: Healthy eating
I am aware of the calorie content in alcohol, but realistically I wont get through my degree without a drink or 5, so I am cutting down on things like chocolate and ice cream instead.
I always walk into town, and sometimes back from uni to my house, and if anyone knows anything about Lancaster they will know that the Uni is out of the city, and St Martins is about 40 minutes walk away.
I am not severely overweight so I am not going to cut things out completely that I am used to eating, because I dont really want to feel grumpy and lethargic when my exams begin in a few days!
I only really need to lose a few pounds, but I just think it'd be nice to lose a stone so then I'm at a healthy, slender weight.

Yes but you are on weight watchers, which is for overweight people. I'm not overweight yet, so my diet isn't that inconsistent.
Everyone knows a healthy diet isn't about cutting out things. Recommended daily allowance of fat is 70g a day for a woman. How much do you get on weight watchers? 2000 calories for a woman a day. A lot of diets go much lower than this, but if I look on my tube of smarties, the calories for a 5-10 yr old child is 1800 calories, so I'd probably be eating less calories a day than a fiver year old if I cut out all my fat, which isn't recommended by any good nutritionist, regardless of what weight watchers suggest.
Weight Watchers is a business at the end of the day, and any other dieting programme with a brand like Slimmers world for example. They want your money. Cutting out fat in one go would essentially be a crash diet, an you'd just put all the weight back on when you eat normally, and go straight back to weight watchers I know people that have been on WW for years, I wonder why that is

Re: Healthy eating
Healthy eating, huh! it was used by my mother as a form of birth control!
When my brother and I were teenagers if one of us was putting some extra effort into getting ready for a Saturday night out, (because of a date), you could guarantee that tea would be delayed and we would end up with a salad just before we went out.
No use complaining or just picking out the bits you wanted to eat the plate HAD to be cleared or Mum would go into guilt mode and we would never be forgiven for leaving something.
So along with the lettuce, cucumber, (burp), radishes, (even bigger burp) and hard boiled eggs, there would be spring onion and raw onion on the plate all of which had to be consumed.
No matter how you cleaned your teeth after that you just couldn't get rid of the 'onion' breath. Of course as the evening wears on the effect of the eggs mixed with beer had an added effect on the digestive system!
So what chance would you have of scoring with anyone that night?

Curry goes well with beer.
Just glad garlic dressing wasn't used!

Re: Healthy eating
its a lot easier if you have a meal without salad ( meat or fish ) potatoes/rice/pasta and then have fruit as your pudding
use your veg intake as snacks - eg cut up a pepper so it is to hand when you feel peckish - that way when you feel the need to munch you are fitting in your veg potions
my favourite raw veg snacks are mange tout or sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes and carrots ( dont bother peeling or cutting it just bite the ends off spit em at someone you dont like ) and chomp away.
any veg can be eaten raw but i must admit i dont do raw broccoli or cauliflower eww
i dont mind the odd mushroom raw but too many i find are sickening
be careful what fruit you snack on - pears and grapes are the worst for having a high sugar content.
try to get into the habit of eating every two hours ( no not chocolate) drink water before each meal and of course - have breakfast works better than a diet
