Hedgehogs

I just wonder, hedgehogs will become more active as the weather improves, I can honestly say that I've never noticed running over one, or a rabbit or even a p(h)easant, is this because I'm a careful driver, or is it because my vehicles suspension is less sensitive than I am?

Re: Hedgehogs

Maybe you drive to slow and they run away.

I have hit a few things, rabbits, pheasant, and most recently a magpie that I had to fish out of my grill with long nose pliers yukk

I think it's a weight issue.

Try carring sandbags, and you might have better luck.

Strangely enough Neil, I just got flashed for speeding, yes, I'm guilty, but the annoying thing is...

For a fortnight on the road I travel regularly, temporary traffic lights urgent gas repairs.
The first Monday the delay is removed, I'm busy thinking, no delay how wonderful, Doh, forgot the speed camera, clickety, click.
What the hey, I WAS speeding, but no chance of appealing, (unless on mental grounds), nothing there to slow me down.
If only I'd seen a hedgehog to vent my spleen upon.

I'd have slowed down.

Now my choice is, to pay fine, get three points, or pay extra nine pounds attend speed awarness course. Then lose a days pay?

Oh, dear.
(still deciding, after all nearly 20 years since last speeding offence, I could save myself 3 pints and a bit).

OR

Do I attend, but pay no attention?

Do I really need to be lectured for a genuine mistake?

Re: Hedgehogs

Go on the course.

There might be a nice certificate.

Or even a medal, of your very own!

Just think how proud you'd be.

Like a peacock, strutting about.

Just be careful crossing the road.

You might end up as flat as your trinket.

Re: Hedgehogs

Less, like you I was just over the limit and had the choice. I decided to pay for the course(£80) but was ill on the day and couldn't go. No second chance allowed so result-£80 fee, £60 fine, 3 points and extra insurance charge fo 5 years.
If you take the course you aren't done for speeding so you save on insurance( I think it cost me an extra £30-£40 year) so overall it's the better, cheaper option. However, I believe they treat you like a very naughty, very small child-amongst other things you have to stand up and confess your wickedness and sins to the group and tell them how you have learnt to repent.
Not to your taste I would think?

(Arise Less)

'Hello group, my name's Less, and I'm a speed addict.'

'I can offer no defence for my life-style choice, though in mitigation I'd like you to know I've never knowingly squashed a hedgehog.'

(Ripple of applause, and a comforting, knowing pat on each arm, from neighbouring speed freaks.)

Thank's for that.

Though I suspect you were an even naugtier boy than I, my fee is £69.

Now, bend over six of the best and we'll say no more about it.

Though now I'm tempted, Confess? ME?

I know where I can get six of the best for a lot less than that! With my insurance costs I can't afford £69!

No, neither can I,
but what the hey, I must be able to, I'm a driver, no chance of appeal, no chance for mitigating circumstances, turn up to the Magistrate and risk worse, yes I was guilty, but a thief that knocks an old lady to the floor get's more chance of pleading his case than I do.

Anyway back to hedgehogs...

How do you like them cooked?

MMMMMmmmmm!

Road Kill.

It's that Neils fault.

Don't fancy hedgehog, but on the Leyland/Southport back road a couple of days ago a herd of red deer ran out right in front of us! I didn't have time to accelerate and if Neil struggled with a magpie imagine getting a red deer out of your grill! But venison!! It might have been worth it.
