I know that Pamela Anderson is Canadian............mmmmm
Mmmmmm indeed And I know at least two members on AccyWeb who have the hots for Paul Gross from "Due South." Unfortunately, my Canadian sense of honor, prevents me from telling who
I`ve visited Toronto in the past and thought it was great, friendly people and amazing scenery, would love to go back and visit more places at some point.
This guy's Canadian too, son of a Mountie (Ooohh, Rose-Marie again - Nelson Eddy - be still, my heart ) and he made a very funny film about airplanes.
The one and only Leslie Nielsen
And those Naked Gun movies ... what a blast ... and his brother was a Member of Parliament ... and I do believe he was the ship's captain in the first Posiedon Adventure movie .... altho' it wasn't much of a role after he drowned And if we are talking of movie stars and tv stars: John Candy, Lorne Greene, Michael J. Fox, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, William Shatner, Dan Aykroyd (he's from Kingston, by the way, and spends most of the summer with his family on Loughborough Lake (unfortunately pronounced "lowborough" over here).
I know there's a place called Moosejaw because some distant relative emmigrated there before I was born. I know that Calgary, Alberta has a 'Stampede'. I know that Quebec is French. I know that Canada has the biggest Island within a lake which has its own lake within the island which also has an island in that lake. I know that moose are very big and have strangely flat antlers. I know that Canada has two land borders and both are with the USA.................. I may think of more.

And the island in the lake is Manitoulin Island ... absolutely great place to visit, a real gem
Oh, and that would be Moose Jaw, in the great and very friendly province of Saskatchewan, land of the living skies, a wonderful place to see the Northern Lights, and the best sunsets in the world.
Don't know much about Canada i'm afraid but ive always wanted to go to Vancouver.
They filmed the X-Files in British Colombia for a few years and it looks beautiful!
Thats about the extent of my knowledge though sorry!
Bunch of sodding racists , used to go up to Vancouver for long Holiday weekends , ($80 round trip air fare to Seattle and a two hour drive north ) . The last two times I was up there had my rental car vandalized/broke into , each time I filed a report with the local police for a case number for the insurance, I was told it was my own fault , shouldn't have been driving a car with US registration plates , otherwise a nice enough place
lots of sleazy memories of the old Dufferin Hotel , alas no longer with us , think the public health dept. closed it down

Know what you mean about the Dufferin .... I used to live on Manitoba st. ... and you must know that the one thing that unites Canada is our dislilke of Americans ... otherwise this is a nice enough place

British Colombia is a beautiful province ... and Vancouver is a fantastic city ... a real gem ... the Rockies and the Pacific ... it must be on any traveller's list of places to visit ... and it's the site of the 2010 winter Olympics
Eric , upon reflection I owe you an apology for my earlier post about Canadians being racists towards Americans , looking back I can remember from a presonal point what your guys/gals did in late 79 during the hostage situation in Tehran , and I'm sure lots of Americans if they knew more about the events at the time would also acknowledge the debt they owe to Canada , (anyway thats a story for the grandkids ... )
Anyway any county that can produce both Joni Mitchell and Buffy Sainte-Marie must have something going for it
a couple of more Canadian cultural productions worthy of mention ....two films to be watched back to back while sharing a bottle of Pernod/Richard/Pastis , " the Decline of the American Empire" and "the Barbarian Invasions " , have to say the first time I saw both movies were on Air France trans Atlantic flights but both well worth the rental , and a great introduction to the movies is something by Lenoard Cohen
