I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
women coming into surgery who are trying their damnedest to get pregnant.
Any thought about this?

Re: I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
Think it is just a sign of the times Susie. People getting married later, combined with average divorce age in early 40's and they wish to have another child with a new partner.
Is slightly on the edge of a little too old ... but not quite if they are energetic and healthy, and have a supportive partner. Health care, of course, is better now and a good chance of mother and baby getting through it safely, unlike many years ago. Always surprises me when you start looking through the censors of late 1800's, etc., lots of children born to women of this age group .. course no birth control then.
Best of luck I say.

And I'm not giving you mine until the jury comes back in having found you guilty of neglecting to embellish the thread with your own medical opinion as a guide to us lesser mortals, (I hope they give you lines, I must not start a thread without at least giving an impression of my own thought's to get the ball rolling).

Re: I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
I have had a lady in with a new baby a few months back who had her first baby at 48 and is suprised and delighted. Fabulous for her after years of 'infertility' then resigning herself to the fact she would be childless.
Is there an age where you become 'too old'?
There are just so many things surrounding this its so hard to have anything other than an open mind for me

I am not being hostile, you started a thread, to make that thread of interest to others you should at least give us a brief summary of the pro's and cons as you see them, then perhaps at least we have some idea about how you are thinking, it is a very emotive subject and to start the thread then jump promptly onto the fence is unfair on the others that read it.

Re: I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
I think the time to call it quits is when Mother Nature takes over and the menopause kicks in ... unlike the women who go on to have IVF after this.

Re: I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
what nonesense Less
Its like creative problem making (dont gladwrap that in trying to make out that it's not a hit on me)
I am inviting opinions, pros and plus points, environmental factors, views from other people.
I actually believe every woman or man I have spoken to about this even though they may have polar opinions..is right!
Its a good topic to discuss and thats the point of this

Re: I seem to have a glut of 45yr old+
It must be nice for a woman that has been trying for years to conceive but only manages in later life, but I've always understood that there is more risk to both baby and mother in older age births, I think that women in their sixties (there have been a few documented cases recently) is wrong, especially on the child, which was highlighted when a woman had a child in her late 60s and then unfortunately was diagnosed with terminal cancer leaving the child on its own and at a very young age

If you wish to think of it as a hit against you I can't stop you.
But at least you have expanded on your first post a little.

Ya but the menopause is natures way of saying enough is enough, just a pity nature doesn't take away the broodiness when a woman of any age is given a new born to hold

Good grief, Jaysay even I get a broody sort of feeling when given a new born to hold, I always thought it was a natural protection sort of thing, not that I was considering having one!
