Incubation Period

Does anybody know what the incubation period is for meningitis? My brother-in-law was admitted to hospital yesterday for the third time in four weeks and is being treated for meningitis. It just got me thinking if it had been in the incubation period for that length of time and has now just manifested itself. Anybody know anything about it? Just curious really, he is better today than he was yesterday but still quite poorly.

Re: Incubation Period

Just found this
Incubation Period
The incubation period depends on the causative agent. For example the incubation period of meningococcal meningitis is 2-10 days while the incubation for hemophilus meningitis is much shorter ranging from 2-4 days. However the range of incubation for most organisms causing meningitis is 2 days to 2 weeks.

Hope he is soon better.

Re: Incubation Period

My husband died from meningococcal septicaemia, a form of meningitis. He was ill for only 48 hours but they told me the incubation period was 2 to 10 days. His first symptoms were similar to gastric flu but he developed the dark rash a few hours before he died.

I sincerely hope your brother in law gets well and has no after-effects. It's a horrible disease.

Re: Incubation Period

Thanks everyone for the messages, there was no rash just terrible headaches and pain in his neck. Was there with my sis till about one thirty this morning and back there today. No communication with him really (he was sedated) but as I say they say he is better than yesterday, so hoping once the antibiotics kick we will see an improvement.
