Is a Complaint in order?

I think that used to be common practice. I've been told of it being done in Waitrose.

It might have been that when you bought the cheese the wrapping might have been punctured.

All blocks of cheese come hermetically sealed. Once you break the seal, as you have to, to eat it, air gets at the cheese.

Sealing it in an air tight container isn’t enough. You have to wrap it tightly in cling film or if using a plastic bag, squeeze all the air out of it if you want it to last a week or two.

The other point is to look at the sell by date BEFORE buying any food. In fact poke your arm to the back of the shelf and grab what’s there rather than the stuff at the front.

I never touch the block of cheese with my bare hands, even if freshly washed. I find that if you do, you get mould where your fingerprints were.

ASDA...........we made our last trip there this week........over the past six months standards have certainly gone downhill, recently we have been back and forth with out of date products we have bought, some a couple of days , others a week or so, when we complained nobody really seems to do anything, i have been emailing head office with all my complaints as instore complaining does`nt seem to have any effect, 2 week ago whilst shopping we dumped 6 bags of out of date salad on the customer services desk, this week after i`d returned mozerella cheese that had disintegrated in the bag we ended up dumping 3 tubs of week out of date soft cheese with the customer services and them left my whole trolley with them and we went off to tesco. this really is not good enough, tortilla wraps, various cheeses, naan breads, bread, potatoes, quorn escolopes, salad, houmous.......the list goes on of things we have returned or just thrown away. we were promised from head office that it would be looked into and the store customer service manager would be in contact with us personally, that was 4 weeks ago!!!!! not good enough, we were even thinkin of contacting the observer about this, when we wre instore we spent more time looking at the dates on products that we did shopping!!!
is unbelievable how much of our money we spent per month in asda not just on food items but clothes,dvd`s, cds etc but not anymore, off to tesco we go......roll on tesco accrington i say

A complaint is exactly what should be made, not enough people complain, I know for a fact that supermarkets (maybe not all), send food back to the packaging companies to be re-labelled and re-dated when the sell by date is up, particularly with frozen food.

I shop online and have used both Asda and Tesco for this.
For the past 6 months Tesco have always got my order because by using this price comparison site my order always has worked out to be cheaper at Tesco

AND the Tesco delivery service is better - rarely get told 'items not in stock' and better quality too!!!!

Can't stand Asda at accrington, they never have anything you want and the shelves are always empty. We always use Tesco.

I’m not a cheerleader for any of the supermarkets but why have you been buying out of date products in the first place. The sell by dates are clear enough on most items. Don’t you look to see BEFORE you put the item in your trolley/basket? I appreciate that in haste it is possible to grab the wrong item once. But twice is downright careless and three times is simply stupid.

Caveat Emptor is a phrase that applies to goods from a supermarket/shop as well as when buying a house or a second hand car.

Now that’s an interesting accusation.

Hopefully you will have evidence to back up your claim.

You point out that not enough people complain and you are right in that, they don’t.

But if you have evidence to back up your claim, why haven’t you been in touch with Trading Standards or Health and Safety.

i just did my shopping on my supermarket.com and i have saved more than a tenner with asda.
I have never had any problems with asda at all, never used tesco

What you buy will influence which store is cheaper - your shopping basket and mine must be very different

I check the dates everywhere i go, its just something you need to do even in the best shops
