Is there any point to DST ... ?

Well boys and girls, it's that time of year again ... On Sunday at 2:00 am our clocks spring forward one hour. And for you guys, it looks like March 31 ... you seem to be lagging behind us in everything these days I was reading an article (there are lots on the subject; so, I won't post a link) that seems to suggest that for some folks this is not a good idea. Pedestrian fatalities, for example, seem to take a jump. Whether this is owing to sleepy drivers, or equally sleepy pedestrians, nobody seems to know. Insomniacs seem to have a problem adjusting; and, especially on the first day, there is one hour less to sleep away one's hangover.

This idea seems to have originated in WW l in the land of the squareheads. Like starting a couple of wars to take over the welt, this doesn't appear to me to have been one of their better ideas.

Does anyone see any point to continuing daylight savings time?

By the way, when the clocks go ahead in the land of Uk, does the whole country do it? Over here, it seems to kinda optional, with the Province of Saskatchewan and parts of BC just ignoring it.

Clocks go forward, clocks go back, at least (at the moment) we don't have double summer time like they had in WWII, though the coalition will probably think it a good idea to apply it to the unemployed, it will give the poor souls more daylight hours to search for that none existent job.

The whole country does it Eric.
Personally I would like them to leave the clocks alone.......I don't really care whether they leave them on BST (which is a misnomer anyway) or GMT........mucking about with the clocks does my body clock no damn good at all.
It disrupts my digestive habits and my sleeping habits.
I would be interested to see what others think though.

Well I don't think Scotland likes it but I reckon it would be chaos if we didn't all do it.

Doesn't bother me, I'd like to live further north where it's dark all the time for part of the year - I like the cold as well.

Who tells all the animals, birds and other creatures that rely on us for their food and care etc, that the clocks have changed, they still rely on mother nature to tell them what time it is, so why do they keep messing with the Bluudy clocks, pick a time and stick to it, the reasons for it have long since passed into history.
Eric and maxthecollie like this.

As a recluse, with limited contact with people, I never have a set time to do anything, so just 'go with the flow' -
..eat when I'm hungry..sleep when I'm tired.

I am looking forward to more daylight hours because a horrible orange street lamp at the same level as my lounge window really irritates me. I hope that the county will switch to more tolerable LED street lighting soon.

Being a recluse is surely like living in a backwater, what flow have you got to go with?

as Retlaw pointed out in his own inimitable way....time is a man-made thing.
Margaret, I am sure that following the 'beat of your own drum' is a much better way of doing....but obviously useless in a commercial world.
