A teacher able to take charge of themselves, never mind children!
That's from a bygone age!
Oooh, look my old school teachers, they finally made an appearance.

Just because it has not does not mean it should not. The school own website could be used to inform parents what is happening as well.
We are in the 21st century now, its a shame that the head teachers expect us to sit and listen to the wireless waiting for the announcements. We want to quickly check on our PC's so we can spend time trying to arrange childcare after being let down by the schools again.

'Wireless' LOL......very 21st century haha.
You didn't have to listen to your wireless, Neil.
The letter we got yesterday had the website address for Radio Lancashire on it and the news on that was up to the minute.

Well, if you've no computer you can listen to the radio. They were announcing the closures regularly, every ten mins or so.
Neil has a computer, he was saying he doesn't want to listen to his radio.

There have been other examples ie text of how parents have been informed that schools are closed.
I think the argument why schools have been closed has been well covered on this thread ie it's not just about pupils locallity to the school but also how many staff can access school which clearly may differ from neighbouring schools simply because some staff may live in places more affected by snow
I had the "wireless" on from 7am and clearly many schools had made prompt arrangements if the snow arrived.
I appreciate it's difficult for parents when schools close fortunately mine are now old enogh to look after themselves but to say your letdown again makes it sound like it happens every week

Re: Is your School Closed?
St Mary's has been open all week, and we got the kids there quite easily in a saloon car, I went out at my normal time this morning, and apart from the street I live on (where mount carmel has been closed twice this week), the rest was a breeze, even willows lane was ok to drive on, 3 of our staff came from rossendale, the last one to arrive was an hour and a half late, but got in, everybody except myself and 1 other was late, and I am told that the main reason is that many people just dont know how to drive in snow. At lunchtime, I drove to rossendale and back and was clear all the way.
